One year and a half have passed since the day Vinh and Nick asked me to be the photographer of their same-sex wedding in Florence, at the beautiful Villa di Maiano. This villa, where the whole event took place, is really close to Florence, on the hills that surround the city. It looks like being in the open countryside (search in the below gallery the drone photos) but it’s just 20 minutes far from the airport or the central train station. So it’s the ideal place if you don’t want to bother your guests with a lot of car travels. This wedding was the second occasion I had to work side by side with Giulia (if you’re curious, this is the first one). Giulia is probably the best human being you could meet, to help with your wedding. Maybe this is because she’s not just a wedding planner, but also a personal assistant for tours, custom made purchases and everything that’s connected with tourism, in Tuscany and the surrounding regions.
We exchanged a lot of emails with Vinh and Nick in these months. until the past September, when they asked me to shoot an engagement session in the Florentine alleys, to help them break the ice with me and my cameras (great idea!). The photos turned out great (they’ll be online soon, I promise) and it helped so much in creating the right connection on the wedding day. Anyway, the whole process – since the first email to the current days – has been so easy that now we have a lot more than a pure “customer-vendor” relation. The following text is part of what Vinh wrote to me after they saw their gallery:
“….One of the reasons because we were excited to work with you in the first
place – we didn’t want a “wedding photographer” that would pose us and
make us feel weird or someone who wouldn’t do a good job capturing
the feelings of the day. Being able to revisit those emotions again
and again is the best gift that we could have received, so thank you.
Another reason is because we got along with you so well. Something
important when you’re going to be following us around all day! It felt
like having a friend with us, and I hope you had a good time hanging
around us and our crazy friends and family – you’re part of the crew
And I couldn’t be happier. I’m conscious that for all of you – as a client – it’s hard to choose and buy a photography service. We are a lot of photographers, and all of us try to sell you something. What I’d like to give you, along with a good wedding photography service, is a great experience with me; effortless and relaxed (spoiler: if we’re able to create a great connection – complicity I’d like to say – photographs will turn out definitely better!). Everything was great at their wedding, but there are two “best of“. I never heard a speech so touching as the one from Vinh ‘s father..and the party. OMG. THE PARTY. That was definitely the most amazing wedding party at which I took part in my entire life. Don’t know if it could be related to the fact that it was a gay marriage…maybe yes, maybe no. Who cares. But I’m not speaking just as a wedding photographer. Also if I was working, I guess I never had so much fun on a wedding dance-floor!
If you’re one of those people that don’t support love in all of its different shapes, I encourage you to go through this gallery. And see how much easier it would be to support people’s choices instead of fighting against them. Maybe this is not what you feel good for you but – as you will understand looking at those photos – they are for sure the best thing that could happen to each other. Like all the other weddings, a same-sex wedding is nothing more than two people in love standing up and declaring their love to be forever. They don’t need your approval, but just all our support! But if you are one of those people that fight against same-sex marriage, and it happens you’re here searching for your wedding photographer, I’m pretty sure I’m not the right fit for you. 🙂
